H.E. Ambassador HU Zhangliang Met with Dr. Housainou Taal, the Representative and Country Director of WFP

On February 27, 2020, H.E. Chinese Ambassador HU Zhangliang Met with Dr. Housainou Taal, the Representative and Country Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Sierra Leone.

Ambassador HU introduced the agricultural and educational cooperation between China and Sierra Leone. He said that the Chinese government has provided 6923 metric tons of rice aid to the Sierra Leonean government at the latter's request, and the Sierra Leonean government has been responsible in distributing the aid, part of which was delivered to support school feeding under the Free Quality Education Programme. Ambassador Hu stated that China would continue to work with the Sierra Leonean government as well as other development partners to jointly support the sustainable development of agriculture and food security in this country.

Dr. Taal spoke highly of China's staunch support for the social and economic development of Sierra Leone, especially the Chinese rice aid. He said that the WFP country office in Sierra Leone was invited by the Sierra Leonean government to help distribute the Chinese rice aid. Dr. Taal shared with Ambassador HU of the distribution plan, and assured that every grain will be put to good use for the intended purpose. He said that WFP is looking forward to working with China to support agricultural and educational development, address food insecurity and achieve Zero Hunger in Sierra Leone.

As Dr. Taal introduced, WFP is helping distribute part of the Chinese rice aid to over 300,000 primary school children in seven districts in a scientific, effective and transparent way.
