On May 21, 2019, Chinese Ambassador to the Republic of Sierra Leone, H.E. Mr. Hu Zhangliang paid a courtesy call on Mrs. Nabeela Tunis, the new Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Sierra Leone.

Ambassador Hu conveyed the warm congratulations and best wishes of His Excellency Mr. Wang Yi, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China to Hon. Minister Tunis. Ambassador Hu said that China and Sierra Leone enjoy deep traditional friendship, political mutual trust and beneficial cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries 48 years ago. “This has brought tangible benefits to our two peoples,” Ambassador Hu said. The Chinese side will work with the Sierra Leonean side to implement the important consensus reached by H.E. President Xi Jinping and H.E. President Julius Maada Bio and the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit. We hope that the bilateral cooperation between China and Sierra Leone in various fields will be enhanced to a new level, Ambassador Hu pointed out.

Hon. Minister Tunis asked Ambassador Hu to convey her sincere gratitude and best wishes to H.E. State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi. The Honorable Minister said that the long-standing friendship between Sierra Leone and China is unfading. Over the years, the Chinese government and people have been providing valuable support for Sierra Leone’s development in various fields. The Sierra Leone government and people are deeply grateful for that. Last year when H.E. President Bio paid a state visit to China, H.E. President Xi Jinping met with him cordially and the talks between them were very fruitful. “As the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, I will work with the Chinese side to actively promote the friendly relations between our two countries,” the Honorable Minister assured the Ambassador.
