Making statement at the opening ceremony, Mr. Wang Xinmin noted that table tennis is one of the most popular sports in China and it’s glad to see Sierra Leoneans develop the same hobby. He said the Chinese government had been constantly supporting sports development in Sierra Leone either by constructing sports facilities like the National Stadium and Bo Stadium or offering training courses for Sierra Leonean sportsmen. He wished all players for the Tournament excellent performance and encouraged them to boost China-Sierra Leon friendship.

Dr. Patrick Coker thanked the Embassy, SLTTA and Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Sierra Leone for jointly hosting the fantastic event. He said the Tournament offers a good chance for talented players to compete with each other and improve skills. According to him, many younger Sierra Leoneans had developed interest in the table tennis, and the sport would get more popular in future.

Emmanuel Lebbie said the event marked a happy moment for the Association and a new high of the sport. He thanked the Chinese Embassy for the support and called on other embassies to follow the good example.

This is the second time the Embassy is co-hosting the tournament with SLTTA. Players aged from 10 and above were categorized into six groups by their ages and gender.
