2018/11/02

On October 31,2018, 18 Sierra Leonean college students were awarded with Chinese Ambassador Scholarship by His Excellency Ambassador WU Peng at the Chinese Embassy in Freetown. The Chinese Ambassador Scholarship is awarded every year to those eligible college students who possess good knowledge of China and China-Sierra Leone bilateral relationship.

This year, 30 students were nominated by the Universities of Sierra Leone to compete for the Scholarship and 18 of them were marked for their outstanding performances after an interview conducted by the Chinese Embassy. They stood out for their understandings on China and China-Sierra Leone friendship as well as their excellent academic results.

Among the scholarship awardees, 2 were awarded with China-Sierra Leone Friendship Awards, 6 with Outstanding Academic Achievement Awards and 10 with Promising Youth Awards. The package of the scholarship will help relieve family burden on paying the college tuition, one of the recipients noted. Sheka Kamara, one of the scholarship winners from IPAM, thanked the Chinese Embassy for the scholarship on behalf of the students. He said that the scholarship was in line with president Bio's Free Quality Education for Sierra Leoneans and as the beneficiaries they would work extremely hard to prove that they deserve the scholarship.

Vice Minister of Technical and Higher Education Dr. Turad Senesie, Vice Chancellor of the University of Sierra Leone Professor Foday Sahr, Deputy Chancellor of IPAM, FBC and Provost of COMAHS joined the embassy to grace the awarding ceremony.
